Belgrade Intl. Book Fair opens with Iran as guest of honor
TEHRAN -- The Belgrade International Book Fair (BIBF) opened on Sunday with Iran as its guest of honor this year.
Iran has arranged a wide range of programs to offer to the visitors during the fair running until October 30, Persian media reported on Monday.
Covering around 300 square meters, Iran’s pavilion has dedicated a special section to an exhibition of illustrations, while a number of illustrators, miniaturists and calligraphers will be creating works at the pavilion during the fair.
An Iranian film screening program has also been arranged on the side section of the fair, in which five films are due to be screened.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of Iranian and Serbian officials and cultural figures including director of Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organizations (ICRO) Abuzar Ebrahimi-Torkaman and Vladan Vukosavljevic, the Minister of Culture of Serbia.
“Track 143” director Narges Abyar who is also a prominent writer was among those who delivered a short speech at the opening ceremony.
She talked about female Iranian writers and the interest of Iranians in reading books, and said, “Almost all the world’s bestselling books are being translated into Persian.”
The Culture Minister Vladan Vukosavljevic next visited the pavilion of Iran and held talks with Iranian artists and writers.
Authors Mostafa Mastur, Farhad Hassanzadeh, and Mojgan Sheikhi, calligrapher Elaheh Khatami, film critic Mehrzad Danesh, and illustrators Mahshid Darabi, Sahar Mirhosseini, Sahar Khorasani and Raheleh Barkhordari are among the Iranian participating guests of the fair.
“Track 143” (Narges Abyar), “Mazar-i-Sharif” (Hassan Barzideh), “Crazy Castle” (Abolhassan Davudi), “Today” (Reza Mirkarimi) and “Five-Star” (Mahshid Afsharzadeh) are the Iranian films to go on screen during the program.
